The Players
at Putney Gardens
Closing Night SATURDAY, JULY 28 CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER -
See you next year!!
The Players At Putney Gardens - Stratford, Connecticut's only resident Shakespeare company - was originally founded in 1992. Some time later, we discovered the beautiful Sunken Garden at Boothe Memorial Park. Thanks to the continued generosity and support of the Boothe Park Commission and Stratford's Recreation Department, we have been able to use the Garden every summer since 2003;
a tradition was born!
Shakespeare's comedy, Twelfth Night, marks our ninth production in that marvelous space.
Our performers and directors come from all over the local area. Although The Players at Putney Gardens is not a professional company, we are experienced artists offering you a delightful evening outdoors under the stars.
But Before That...
Years ago, before we committed to performing Shakespeare only, Putney Players (as we were then called), had
a mission of trying to present plays that do not normally appear on local community stages. Past productions included: A Raisin in the Sun, Broadway Bound, The Playboy of the Western World, A Perfect Ganesh, as well as short works by renowned playwrights such as Sam Shepherd, John Guare, and David Ives.
We were also proud to have produced the area premier of Natalie Babbitt’s children’s classic, Tuck Everlasting – before Broadway got a hold of it !
